Professor Khusro was a distinguished academic, journalist, administrator and policy analyst in India before passing away in August 2003.
He was one of India’s most celebrated economists, and Professor of Economics at the Delhi University from 1957 to 1974.
He was also director of the Institute of Economic Growth in Delhi; Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University; India’s ambassador to West Germany, a Member of the Planning Commission; Chairman of Eleventh Finance Commission; member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and Director on the board of Indian Express Newspapers.
He was author of 22 books and a number of articles in national and international journals and newspapers.
The German government conferred upon him the 'Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit'.
