About Franziska Tiburtius
- Franziska Tiburtius (24 January 1843 – 5 May 1927) was a German doctor, one of the first two women to qualify as a doctor in imperial Germany.Refused entry to German medical faculties, Tiburtius studied for medicine in Zurich and in 1876 passed her examinations with distinction.
- That year she completed an internship with the gynaecologist Franz von Winckel in Dresden.
- With her fellow student Emilie Lehmus (1841-1932), she set up private practice in Berlin.
- Despite sustained opposition, their clinic succeeded in attracting a large clientele.
