About Gordon Dunn

  • Gordon Glover "Slinger" Dunn (April 16, 1912 – July 26, 1964) was an American discus thrower who won a silver medal at the 1936 Summer Olympics.
  • Earlier in 1934 he won the NCAA and IC4A titles.Later in life, Dunn became mayor of Fresno, California (1949–57) and qualified for the nickname "No-Fun Dunn" because of his zest in leading raids on bordellos and gambling dens.
  • He loved going to fires and police happenings, and had both red lights and a siren on his personal vehicle. In 1964, Gordon Dunn was inducted into the Fresno County Athletic Hall of Fame.
