About Jean Luc Crétier

  • Jean-Luc Crétier (born April 28, 1966 in Albertville, Savoie) is a retired French alpine ski racer.
  • He was one of the four members of the "Top Guns" team, created and trained by Serge Guillaume outwith the mainstream of the French Alpine Ski Federation, along with Luc Alphand, Franck Piccard and Denis Rey. He won the gold medal in the downhill at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano.
  • He was the first French male skier to win the Olympic Men's downhill since Jean-Claude Killy in 1968.
  • It was the only victory of Crétier's international career; however, he achieved 5 podium finishes in World Cup races: 2nd downhill - 1997/98 - Beaver Creek (USA)2nd downhill - 1997/98 - Wengen (SUI)2nd downhill - 1993/94 - Chamonix-Les Houches (FRA)3rd downhill - 1993/94 - Val Gardena (ITA)3rd downhill - 1997/98 - Kitzbühel (AUT) He also finished 4th in the men's combined competition at the Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992.
