- 17 Nov 1938) is a retired professor of the University of California and renowned battery and electrochemical engineer researcher.
- The university's Department of Chemical Engineering's Newman Research Group was founded by Newman and "interests of this research group include the investigation of efficient and economical methods for electrochemical energy conversion and storage, development of mathematical models to predict the behavior of electrochemical systems and to identify important process parameters, and experimental verification of the completeness and accuracy of the models".
