- During his career he made over 100 appearances for Newcastle United and over 150 appearances for Ipswich Town.
- He was born in Leeholme. He played his last Football League game for Ipswich in the Third Division South on 6 October 1951, meaning that almost 60 years later he is still among the oldest players ever to have appeared in the Football League - having been 121 days past his 43rd birthday when he bowed out.
