About Miguel Diloné

  • Miguel Ángel Diloné Reyes (born November 1, 1954, Santiago, Dominican Republic) is a former Major League Baseball switch hitting outfielder.
  • He played 12 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Montreal Expos and San Diego Padres. Diloné represented the Dominican Republic at the 1971 Pan American Games.Diloné began his career as a September call-up in 1974 at the age of 19.
  • Used primarily as a pinch runner with the Pirates, he had 21 stolen bases in four seasons. In 1978 he was traded to the A's where he stole 50 bases, but 1980 was his career season.
  • Batting .341, he had 30 doubles, 9 triples and 61 stolen bases with the Indians. Diloné finished his career with 267 stolen bases. Diloné was also famous for his "swing-and-run" tactic of breaking from the box while swinging the bat.In 2009, Diloné lost an eye when a baseball struck him in the face.
  • At the time he was coaching his son and a 15-year-old prospect.
