Sanford Francis Schram (born January 18, 1949) is an American political scientist and author based in New York City.
He is Professor of Political Science at Hunter College where he also teaches public policy in Roosevelt House.
Schram holds an appointment in Sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center where he teaches in the doctoral program in Political Science.
His research and scholarship are focused on the politics of welfare, poverty and related topics regarding the subjugation of subordinate populations in the U.S in particular.Schram is the author of six books and co-author, co-editor or editor of eight others.
He is the only person to have twice received the American Political Science Association's Michael Harrington award for his books Words of Welfare and Disciplining the Poor.
In 2012, he received the Charles McCoy Career Achievement Award from the American Political Science Association.
