About Walter Werneburg

  • Walter Werneburg (* 2 June 1922 in Oppershausen / Germany; – 16 April 1999 in Erfurt) was a German artist.
  • He was mainly known for his very colourful artist prints and the deep symbolism of his paintings. From 1936 to 1939 he educated as a painter in Mühlhausen / Thuringia.
  • Walter Werneburg studied at Kunstgewerbeschule Erfurt from 1939 to 1941 and from 1949 to 1951 at Landesschule für Angewandte Kunst in Erfurt (succeeding institute).
  • He worked as an art teacher from 1951 to 1959 and as a lecturer at Pädagogischen Hochschule Erfurt, a teachers' training college which became the Faculty of Education at the University of Erfurt after German reunification.
  • From 1964 to 1965 he graduated external studies at the University of Leipzig. In his early works Walter Werneburg was engaged in instantaneous representation of nature.
  • Otto Knöpfer was his tutor and Otto Paetz ranks among his inspirers.
  • He convinced by his landscape watercolours.
  • Next to others, Werneburg managed the students education of gravure printing at Pädagogischen Hochschule.
