- Wayne Howard Robinson (born April 19, 1958) is a retired American basketball player.
- He was a 6'8", 217 lb forward. In the 1980 NBA draft, the Los Angeles Lakers drafted him in the second round (31st pick overall), but he was transferred to the Detroit Pistons, averaging 7.9 points 19.6 minutes per game in his first season. My 12 year old son and I had gone to see Tech play at Wake Forest around 2000 and as we were leaving the arena after the game found ourselves walking along with a group of guys wearing Tech letterman jackets who were too old to be current players.
- So I stuck my hand out and introduced myself to the tall fellow next to me who then introduced himself to me as Wayne Robinson.
- I said, "Wayne Robinson, well this is an honor", he thanked me and then asked to shake my son's hand.
- We talked a little about the era when he played at Tech and as we were about to go our separate ways he said, "See that guy over there, that's Les Henson".
- I'm telling this story because I think it illustrates the type person that one of Virginia Tech's best players of all time was.
- By the way, Les Hinson was a fine small forward of the same time frame who could appear to defy gravity and also hit the longest game winning shot in NCAA history.
